KAKKADAMPOYIL

Kakkadampoyil  is a small village partly located in the Kozhikode and Malappuram Districts Kerala.

Location

This rural settlement is about 19km from the Thiruvambady and 24km from the Nilambur . There are many indigenous tribal groups in this area. It is set high on the Western Ghats, with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 m. Kozhippara waterfalls is situated near by here. KSRTC Buses are running services from Thiruvambady & Nilambur towns.

Tourism

A large number of tourists come to Kakkadampoyil to enjoy the cool climate and to stay away from the bustle of the city. Facilities for tourists are not available. Accommodation is available only at Thiruvambady. There are many home-stays and resorts of expensive sort.

Climate

The year is divided into four seasons: Cold (Malayalam:ശൈത്യം (December to February)), Hot (Malayalam:മധ്യ വേനല്‍ (March to May)), South West Monsoon (Malayalam:കാല വര്ഷം, (June to Sept) and North East monsoon(Malayalam: തുലാ വര്ഷം (Oct to Nov)). During the hot weather, the temperature goes up to a maximum of 30C and in cold weather, the temperature drops to 15C. The average rainfall is 2600 millimeters per year.

Geography

Kakkadampoyil stands on the Western top of the Western Ghats with dense forest, and deep valleys. It is 24 km from Nilambur. The Cherupuzha  is one of the important tributaries of Chaliyar River.

Economy

Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy. Arecanut , coffee , cocoa bean , black pepper , plantain , vanilla  and coconuts  are the main crops. Poultry farms are new trend. Death percentage of chickens are very low. So so many farms are started recently.
